Office: President

I believed deeply in the mission of student government, that every student deserves representation and that every voice has the power to create change. During my time at Hartwick, my involvement in SGA strengthened my leadership, communication, and conflict management skills, while also deepening my empathy and commitment to making both our campus and the broader community more inclusive, responsive, and better for all.

Office: Executive Vice President

I chose to serve on the SGA Executive Board because I wanted to ensure that students’ voices were not only heard but also prioritized when making decisions on our campus. Throughout my time in SGA, I have developed strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, especially when having to work with different clubs, departments, and organizations. I have learned how to collaborate with others, problem solve, and think about how to lead change in a strategic way. One initiative I am very proud of is working to make SGA more visible and transparent. By moving our office to Clark, we are more visible and accessible to students so they can come, connect with us, and feel open to share their concerns. I have also helped improve our communication efforts with students and administration, so both parties are more informed and involved in the different works that SGA is doing.

Office: Vice President of Finance

Even when I was a freshman, I decided that I wanted to be VP of Finance. I have always loved democracy, making a difference, and helping those around me, and in my role as a student, SGA seemed like a perfect fit. A very valuable skill I’ve learned from SGA is perspective. Within my role, I hear a lot of ideas, thoughts, and sometimes complaints. I’ve learned to consider the perspectives of those around me and what I can do to make their experience at Hartwick more pleasant. One of my favorite projects during my time in SGA has been educating senators, club leaders, and the overall student body about where their SGA portion of tuition goes. I do this through weekly questioning during SGA Senate meetings. I’m very proud and honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of this organization for three years.

Office: Vice President of Clubs and Organizations

I chose to serve as an SGA representative because, as a club president, treasurer, and active member of multiple organizations, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges clubs face. I wanted to be someone they could go to for support and guidance, especially when it comes to navigating requirement, and help with events or collaborations.Through this role, I’ve developed strong communication, leadership, and stress management skills, while also learning how to truly listen to and support the student body.I am especially proud of helping organize events like Taste of Wick and Cultural Bash, which bring students together and celebrate different cultures on campus.

Minor: Legal Studies
Hometown: Otego, New York
Office: Chief Justice

I wanted to become involved on campus as a freshman, so I moved from being a Senator to a Justice, then was appointed Chief Justice due to my involvement and interest. This position closely aligns with my legal career interests. I have learned what it means to advocate for change at an institution as well as working with a team of high-achieving individuals. I am proud to have reformed the position of Chief Justice, working with the Office of Community Standards to take on more responsibility in conducting Student Conduct Hearings.

Majors: Chemistry and Business Administration
Hometown: Carthage, New York
Office: Secretary

During high school, I served as class president for four consecutive years and fell in love with the ability to foster change in my school and community. After coming to Hartwick, I realized I wanted a similar opportunity in my new environment, so I joined SGA and was elected to the Executive Board. I have always had a love for organization and communication, so the role of Secretary was a perfect fit for me, especially as it accommodated my busy schedule. My favorite part of the role is sending campus-wide ZHD emails. I know how annoying and redundant emails can be for students, so I put a lot of effort into making sure SGA emails are fun and engaging. One of my favorite initiatives that I’ve become a part of through SGA is hosting STEM cell donor drives with DKMS, a non-profit I connected with at the National ASGA Conference in Washington, D.C. Using this connection, I have run numerous donor drives in my hometown and am currently working with Oneonta’s elected officials to host more here at Hartwick and throughout the broader Oneonta community.

Majors: Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, Criminal Justice
Minor: Legal Studies
Hometown: El Paso, Texas
Office: Vice President of Belonging

I never expected to join SGA or even be involved in campus organizations, but through my friends, I slowly became engaged. Watching how hard they worked, and helping them with their projects as an unofficial member and senator inspired me to see what more we could accomplish together. That experience pushed me to become a more active student on campus. Through my majors and my understanding of advocacy, I’ve developed a strong sense of responsibility in my role. As the first person to serve under the VP of Belonging position, I’ve had the opportunity to support inclusive organizations across campus. I’ve been able to assist with planning, collaboration, and financial support, often without unnecessary barriers, which has allowed me to act quickly and effectively. One initiative I’m especially proud of is helping support and strengthen these organizations so they feel seen, heard, and empowered. For instance, right now I am working with the Global Education department to support their initiatives for incoming international students, including organizing their storage, improving what students receive upon arrival, and ensuring they have everything they might need to start their classes successfully.

I wanted to be part of a group that actively supports the well-being of the student body while allowing me to contribute my own skills toward a meaningful and lasting impact. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals is incredibly rewarding to me, as it creates an environment where I can continuously learn from others. I value collaboration deeply and have seen how collective effort can lead to stronger, more impactful outcomes.

SGA Committees

The Safety and Security Committee is an ad hoc committee within the Student Government Association (SGA) dedicated to promoting a safe and secure campus environment for all students. The committee works closely with Campus Safety and other relevant departments to address concerns, identify potential risks, and advocate for improvements that enhance student well-being.

A key initiative of the committee is conducting biannual safety walks, during which members assess campus facilities, lighting, emergency systems, and overall safety conditions. These walks provide valuable insight into areas that may require attention or improvement. The committee also serves as a liaison between the student body and campus safety officials, ensuring that student voices are heard in discussions related to security policies and practices.

Through collaboration, assessment, and advocacy, the Safety and Security Committee strives to foster a campus community where all students feel safe, supported, and informed.

The Dining Committee works to represent student voices in all matters related to campus dining.

The committee collaborates with dining services to improve food quality, menu variety, accessibility, and overall student satisfaction.

Responsibilities include gathering student feedback, addressing concerns, and advocating for inclusive and diverse food options that meet the needs of the campus community. The committee also helps ensure transparency and communication between students and dining administrators.

Elections

The Student Government Association conducts elections annually and the Chief Justice is responsible for assisting Hartwick students in their pursuit to run for Executive Board positions. There are GPA requirements for each position to ensure that students focus primarily on their academics. If a student is interested in a position and meets these requirements, they may submit a candidate application form during the application acceptance window of the election season. Once this application window closes, all applicants attend a meeting with the current Executive Board to learn the more intricate details of the position they are running for and they can decide if they want to move forward in the process.

All confirmed candidates then campaign for a week, culminating in a debate night. At the end of the debate night, voting opens on Hartlink and remains open for a few days. The election results are announced at the next Senate meeting and the new Executive Board begins stepping into their roles. For more information on Executive Board descriptions and requirements, see the SGA Constitution on Hartlink.
