Weian Wang

Associate Professor of Management Information Systems

Weian Wang, Ph.D., PMP, is an Associate Professor of Management Information Systems at Hartwick College. His teaching and research interests include artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs), big data, data analytics, systems analysis and design, and project management.

Much of his recent teaching has focused on helping students gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies and professional tools. He has developed AI-related learning activities, incorporated industry certifications into his courses, and supervised student projects that address real organizational needs. His students have designed and developed several information systems for Hartwick College’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs, including reservation and scheduling, volunteer management, and client management systems. He is also developing an AI agent to help VITA volunteers learn and find relevant information while working on tax cases.

Dr. Wang’s research looks at how technology affects people, organizations, and work. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Information & Management and Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS). His current work focuses on generative AI, human–AI interaction, and the use of AI to support learning and knowledge discovery.

He earned his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is a certified Project Management Professional.
