Policy # 6.39: This policy outlines how information is released to the public.

Policy Scope
This policy applies to all Hartwick College employees.

Responsible Office
Strategic Communications

Hartwick College disseminates information regularly through various communications mechanisms including news releases, email communications, social media and more. The Vice President for Strategic Communications serves as the College’s primary contact for media relations. Any employee who is contacted by the media seeking a comment on behalf of the College should refer the call the Vice President of Strategic Communications at extension 4041. The Vice President of Strategic Communications will either follow up with the media directly or determine who the appropriate College spokesperson is for the topic of interest.

All Hartwick College employees are representatives of the College and are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner that reflects positively upon themselves and the Hartwick College community. An employee’s conduct and comments – including on social media – are part of the image that the College presents to the community and should always demonstrate propriety and a commitment to preserve and enhance the College’s reputation. Employees who have questions about college information that may be shared through social media channels should contact Vice President of Strategic Communications. Any willful disregard for the appropriate release of college information may result in disciplinary action.
