Hartwick College will offer its Pine Lake Archaeological Field School
Hartwick College will offer its Pine Lake Archaeological Field School from Wednesday, May 29, to Friday, June 28.
“Hartwick’s Archaeological Field School at Pine Lake provides a great opportunity to learn, practice, and master scientific methods of archaeological excavation and analysis,” said Field School Director Namita Sugandhi, associate professor of anthropology. “It’s such a great experience for the students to get out in the field and get this practical, hands-on education.”
Located on the flood plain of Charlotte Creek, Hartwick College’s Pine Lake Field Archaeological School will give students a hands-on opportunity to identify, excavate, record, and interpret items found in the prehistoric campsites dating from the Late Archaic period (c. 3000-1000 BCE) through the discovery and analysis of lithic debitage, projectile points, early ceramics, stone-lined fire hearths and more.
The six-week course gives anthropology majors and minors six credits in an upper-level course.
Tuition for the program is $2,220 ($370/credit X 6 credits) and the program fee is $450. Housing is available at Pine Lake. The registration deadline is April 26.
