The Original Tik Tok

This white 1929 IBM clock was recently removed from Eaton Lounge in Bresee Hall and donated to the College Archives. Original to the building when it opened, the clock was produced at IBM’s factory in Endicott, NY. IBM, which began as a maker of timekeeping devices, was first organized by prominent Oneonta publisher, politician and entrepreneur George W. Fairchild. Fairchild convinced local friends to invest in the company and those who did so became millionaires. Several used their IBM investments to ensure the survival and growth of Hartwick College, as evidenced by familiar names on campus such as Dewar, Smith, Holmes, Slade, Yager and Kellogg.
