Volunteers Strengthen College, Community

Walking dogs. Delivering meals. Welcoming visitors to the holiday light show in Neahwa Park.

These are just some of the ways that Harwick faculty and staff are using their Volunteer Paid Time Off to reach out into the community.

“The Volunteer Paid Time Off program is so important,” said Suzanne Janitz, vice president for human resources and compliance.

“It provides a path for employees to give back to the community, establishes a broader network between the College and the community, and provides an opportunity to engage in meaningful volunteer work that adds to an employee’s sense of satisfaction, fulfillment and belonging.”

Vice President for Human Resources and Compliance

Increasing staff and faculty volunteer opportunities is embedded in the College’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Strategic Plan.

“The inclusion of volunteer work in the plan is about the way in which we come together in service of others. For me, being in service is also about creating and sustaining a community.”

Alicia Richardson

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Officer

Among those local organizations seeking volunteers are the Friends of Christmas Dinner, Super Heroes Humane Society and the Susquehanna SPCA, and Hill City Celebrations, email [email protected].

Employees can receive up to 16 hours of paid volunteer time off by completing the form on the College’s website.
