CCFB Welcomes Federal, State, Regional, Local Leaders

Harmonie Bettenhausen has flourished in the role of director for the Center for Craft Food and Beverage (CCFB) since her appointment a little over two years ago. And last week, Bettenhausen was happy to take on yet another role – as tour guide to Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Gayle Manchin and other visitors.

As she guided the guests around the CCFB labs, Bettenhausen shared how the uniqueness of the testing being done at the center is ensuring that the services provided are in high demand.

“Where we're at now, we serve over 700 clients nationwide and internationally. And we’re just one of two public testing labs in the nation.”

Working alongside Bettenhausen at the CCFB are four full time employees, two grant-funded research students and this summer, two student interns.

In addition to the three labs in the Johnstone Science Center, Bettenhausen told those in attendance about the CCFB’s new presence in downtown Oneonta that is still under construction. Bettenhausen says once completed, the doors will be open to the community and the focus in that Dietz St. facility will be on baking and milling.

The visit, facilitated under the leadership of James Kellerhouse, vice president for institutional advancement and external affairs, also included guests such as State Senator Peter Oberacker, Otsego County Chamber of Commerce President Sean Lewis, Kyle Wilber, program manager for the ARC in New York, and Jen Gregory, executive director of the Southern Tier 8.

“I appreciated Gayle’s interest in our students and their involvement in our program and in their futures as well. We appreciate all of the support that we get especially from the Appalachian Regional Commission and it was nice to have State Senator Oberacker here as well.”
