Global Education Aims To “Bring The World to Hartwick”

Noah Goldblatt, director of Global Education, knows that a Hartwick education goes beyond the Hill.

"I want to see that every student, by the time they graduate, has the opportunity to have a significant international experience."

Director of Global Education

New to campus in January, Goldblatt came to Hartwick from Next Step Connections, where he was the manager of institutional relations. He holds an Ed.D in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Vermont.

“I was really inspired by the robust culture of J Term experiences at Hartwick,” he said. “And they do so well at funding these opportunities to make them more accessible for students.”

In addition to the outstanding opportunities that already exist for students, the Office of Global Education is actively seeking new grants and funding opportunities to further internationalize the Hartwick experience.

And Global Education isn’t just about sending students abroad – it’s also about welcoming international students to Hartwick.

“International students add so much to our community,” he said. “They bring a global perspective to our campus while adding cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity.”

Looking ahead, Goldblatt wants to see the College increase its offerings as a US study-abroad destination. “Right now, we have several Japanese students through the Northeast Semester program,” he said. “They like having the opportunity to come to a residential campus in a welcoming community.”

To Goldblatt, global education goes beyond passports and plane tickets. “International doesn’t just mean travel,” he said. “It’s about incorporating global content into classrooms, dining, on-campus and virtual experiences.”

Through April 1, Global Education is co-sponsoring a photo contest with the Stevens-German Library, where students and faculty can enter their photos of culture, architecture and nature from around the world. Submissions will be displayed in the library, with the winners highlighted, starting in early April.

“We’ve done a good job of bringing Hartwick to the world,” he said. “Now we can do more about bringing the world to Hartwick.”
