Hartwick Expands HartLand Promise Scholarship to Include Albany, Broome and Schenectady Counties

To underscore its commitment to making a private liberal arts education accessible to students from upstate New York, Hartwick College has announced the expansion of its HartLand Promise Scholarship to include students from Albany, Broome and Schenectady counties.

The HartLand Promise Scholarship, launched in 2022, guarantees Hartwick’s top scholarship amount – $10,000 annually – for eligible students from across the region. With this expansion, students from Albany, Broome and Schenectady counties join those already eligible in Chenango, Delaware, Herkimer, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Onondaga, Otsego and Schoharie counties.

Since its inception, the HartLand Promise has provided support to nearly 250 students, helping make a high-quality liberal arts education both attainable and affordable.

The scholarship makes attending Hartwick comparable to, or in some cases less than, the cost of a four-year public university center in New York State. For the 2026–27 academic year, eligible students admitted to Hartwick will pay about $13,500 per year in tuition and fees.

“No extra forms. No added steps,” said Jackie Gregory, interim vice president for enrollment management. “If you qualify, the HartLand Promise is automatically awarded when you enroll. It reflects Hartwick’s belief in Life Balance and our dedication to helping students thrive financially, academically and personally.”

Nearly a third of Hartwick’s incoming class already comes from the surrounding region and many alumni choose to live and work locally after graduation. Founded in 1797, Hartwick has long-standing ties to the citizens of New York State, and the HartLand Promise underscores the College’s historic commitment to strengthening opportunities close to home.

The additional support will serve over 18,000 high school seniors in close to 600 public and private high schools across the eligible counties. Transfer students living in or attending colleges and universities within these counties are also eligible.

Eligibility
Students must:

  • Live or attend high school or college in one of the 12 eligible counties.
  • Be accepted as a full-time Hartwick student (minimum 12 credits).
