You’re interested in how food fuels the body, supports performance and helps people live healthier lives.

At Hartwick, the nutrition minor explores the science behind what we eat and how it affects health, disease prevention and overall wellness.

  • How nutrients function in the body and support overall health.
  • How nutritional needs change across the lifespan.
  • How diet supports disease prevention and health management.
  • How food systems, safety and policy influence community health.

This 22-credit program begins with a Hartwick science class and continues with online courses, including food science, lifecycle nutrition and medical nutrition therapy, offered through a national consortium of accredited institutions.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PATHWAYS

Hartwick students interested in careers in nutrition and dietetics gain a strong academic foundation for advanced study and professional certification. The primary credential in the field is administered through the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), which recognizes expertise in nutrition science, medical nutrition therapy and dietary planning.

To become a registered dietitian, individuals must complete additional coursework through an ACEND-accredited program, participate in a supervised practice experience and then pass the national exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
