Pine Lake Day Use & Rentals

There’s something special about every season at Pine Lake. It is a unique destination for workshops, events and outdoor recreation.

Overnight Cabin Rentals

All cabins feature WiFi, fully equipped kitchens (stove, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker provided), private bathrooms, heating, air conditioning, and keyless entry.

Please note that dishes, linens, and cable/TV are not provided.

The Lodge

The Lodge sleeps 8 to 12 guests across eight bedrooms with XL single beds. It has two floors, with a large kitchen equipped with two gas ranges, three refrigerators, and a dishwasher. The second floor does not have air conditioning.

The Lodge Apartment is a one-bedroom unit sleeping 1 to 2 guests with a kitchenette and open living area. It does not have air conditioning, and parking is limited to designated lots.

The Bailey Cabin

The Bailey Cabin sleeps 4 to 8 guests and features four bedrooms with full-size beds, a large wrap-around deck overlooking the lake and Redwood cabins, and rustic pine interiors with south-facing windows.

Hartwick College Pine Lake Strawbale House

The Strawbale Cabin

The Strawbale Cabin accommodates 3 to 5 guests with one bedroom and a sleeping loft. This unique natural building was designed and built by Hartwick students and features natural pine floors and plaster walls. Outdoor amenities include an earthen bread oven and fireplace.

The Cob House

The Cob House sleeps 2 to 4 guests with two sleeping nooks (not full bedrooms). Built from cob—a mixture of sand, clay, and straw—the cabin offers an open living area and is made largely of local and salvaged materials.

The Crossroads Cabin

The Crossroads Cabin is a cozy studio-style cabin sleeping 1 to 2 guests with a small roofed porch overlooking the lake. Please note there is no parking at this cabin except for loading and unloading; all vehicles must be parked in Pine Lake’s main or upper parking lots.

The Hill & Dale Cabin

The Hill & Dale Cabin sleeps 2 to 3 guests in two small bedrooms and includes a kitchenette, open living room, bathroom, and porch. Like Crossroads Cabin, parking is limited to loading/unloading only.

The Redwood Cabins

The Redwood One Cabin sleeps 3 to 6 guests in three bedrooms with full beds and has a screened porch and knotty pine interior. This cabin includes one nearby parking space; additional vehicles must park in the main or upper lots.

The Redwood Two Cabin accommodates 2 to 4 guests in two bedrooms with full beds, a screened porch, kitchen, living room, and bathroom. One parking space is provided nearby; additional vehicles must use designated lots. Guests may use the lower road for loading only.

The Outback Cabins

The Outback Cabins each sleep 2 to 4 guests with two bedrooms, open kitchen and living areas, and share a grassy area with a firepit. Each cabin has one parking space nearby; additional vehicles must park in the main or upper lots.

Community Space Rentals

Non-cabin community spaces are available for full day rental.

The Vaudevillian

Our multi-use space includes wifi, media station (TV/Conferencing), folding tables, chairs, refrigerator, heat, A/C, lighting, public use composting bathrooms are in the foyer area of this building.

The Strawbale is available for events and includes A/C, tables, chairs, benches, a full kitchen and bathroom, and wifi.

Day Use & Rental Policies

Pine Lake is a shared-use space for students, faculty, researchers, and guests. Please help maintain a respectful, clean, and safe environment. These guidelines apply to all users unless otherwise noted.

Facility-Wide Guidelines (All Users)

Day-use hours: 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
Quiet hours: 10:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m.

Call Hartwick Campus Safety at 607-431-4111 or 911 for emergencies. Pine Lake Office staff are available during day-use hours at 607-431-4520.

Must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.

Disorderly behavior by people or pets is not tolerated and may result in eviction without refund.

Pine Lake is a smoke-free, vape-free, and tobacco-free property.

Alcohol is only allowed inside rental cabins by guests 21 or older. No alcohol is permitted outdoors or in boats.

Allowed with up-to-date vaccinations. Pets must be leashed at all times, never left unattended, and not tied to trees or picnic tables. Owners must clean up after their pets.

Park only in designated areas. Do not block roads or walkways. The fire access road between the Lodge and Lake is off-limits without staff permission.

ATVs, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, and other recreational vehicles are not allowed on roads or trails.

Helmets are required for riders under 14. No riding after dark or inside buildings.

Swimming is not permitted in Pine Lake. Ask staff for information about nearby alternatives.

Canoes, kayaks, and rowboats are available from 10:00 AM–6:00 PM (May 25–August 25). Life jackets must be worn at all times. Personal watercraft must be cleaned before launch. No motorized boats are allowed.

Catch and release only. A valid NYS fishing license is required. Anglers must clean up after themselves.

Do not disturb or throw objects at wildlife. Do not damage or attach items to trees, shrubs, or fences. No nails, tarps, or rope.

Firearms, fireworks, BB guns, slingshots, and similar items are prohibited.

Must be supervised at all times. Adults are responsible for behavior and any damage. Boating access requires an adult (18+).

Use the dumpster in the upper parking lot. Do not leave garbage, compost, or recycling outside overnight. Compost bins are provided (no dairy or meat). No broken or unwanted items may be left behind.

Fires are allowed only in designated fire rings. Do not move fire rings. No bonfires are allowed. Fires must be attended at all times and fully extinguished before leaving.

Photos taken at Pine Lake may be used in Hartwick College promotional materials.

Stay on designated trails. Do not bushwhack, or venture into areas that are unmarked.

Additional Guidelines for Renters & Day Users

The following information provides important details for cabin renters, space rental groups, and day users. These guidelines are in addition to the general Pine Lake facility policies outlined in the Day Use & Rental Policies section above. Please review and follow all policies to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

DOWNLOAD

Check-in: Between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Check-out: By 11:00 a.m.

Guest registration: All overnight guests must be signed in at the Lodge Welcome Center. Cabin renters are responsible for the conduct and safety of their guests.

Unit care: Keep your cabin clean and undamaged. Follow posted instructions for waste disposal, fire safety, and check-out procedures.

Noise and quiet hours: Please be respectful of others and observe quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Hours of use: Day visitors may access Pine Lake from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM only.

Visitor check-in: All visitors must register at the Lodge Welcome Center upon arrival.

Activities allowed: Day users may enjoy trails, picnic areas, and boating (in season) during posted hours.

Restrictions: No swimming, no alcohol, no fires, and no overnight stays. All pets and children must be supervised.

Reservations: All non-cabin rentals (such as the Lakeside Classroom, Vaudevillian, outdoor pavilions) must be reserved in advance through Pine Lake staff.

Rental care: Keep the community space clean and undamaged. Follow posted instructions for waste disposal, fire safety, and check-out procedures.

Group conduct: Event coordinators are responsible for the behavior of all participants. All group members must follow facility-wide guidelines.

Noise control: Be mindful of other users, including students and researchers. Avoid loud music or amplified sound. Quiet hours must be observed.
