News SUCO, Hartwick Team up to Beautify Oneonta
A Hawks in Flight Feature
Recently, faculty, staff, and students from SUNY-Oneonta and Hartwick College took time on a Saturday to help beautify a busy intersection in City Center.
Proposed by Oneonta Mayor Mark Drnek, both schools jumped at the chance to work together and give back to the community. Coordinator of Civic Engagement Alex Douglas quickly pulled together a Hartwick contingent of five or six students to help, and his counterpart at SUNY-Oneonta, Linda Drake, did so as well.
The combined force spent a Saturday morning making the gateway intersection of Main Street and Lettis Highway attractive and welcoming by picking up trash and freshening up the plants.
This is just the first collaborative program between the two schools this semester, as there are at least two more projects slated this fall.
The SUNY-Oneonta/Hartwick relationship is developing beyond community service projects, however. Next month, SUNY-Oneonta President Alberto Cardelle will be speaking at the inauguration of President Darren Reisberg.
