Call for Nominations
The Hartwick College Department of Nursing Alumni Committee is accepting nominations for its Distinguished Alumnus/a Award. Our alumni represent the Department and College locally, nationally, and internationally through their work as nursing professionals. The Department takes pride in the accomplishments of its alumni, and needs assistance in identifying those who meet the following award criteria: The Distinguished Alumnus/a Award is the highest recognition given by the Department of Nursing's Alumni Committee to an alumna or alumnus who has demonstrated continuous, outstanding, creative, and exemplary contributions to the profession of nursing or to healthcare. Nominees must be Hartwick College Nursing graduates and will be considered on the basis of leadership, achievement, and contribution in the areas of academia, administration, clinical practice, research, and/or service (professional and community). When submitting nominations, please indicate the area in which the nominee should be considered.
Nominations should be accompanied by information that supports the nomination (e.g., letters of support and pertinent materials such as a CV or resume). All nominations should be submitted no later than January 30 to Hartwick College, Attn: Alumni Committee, Department of Nursing, PO Box 4020, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Faculty News
Associate Professor Jeanne-Marie Havener, Ph.D. APRN, CNS/FNP, Chair of the Department of Nursing, co-authored an article entitled "The Rural Pipeline: Building a Strong Nursing Workforce Through Academic and Service Partnerships" with her colleagues from Bassett Healthcare (Maureen Murray, Director of Professional Practice and Adjunct Professor; Connie Jastremski, Chief Nurse Executive; Patricia Davis, Project Manager; and Martha Twichell, Director of Nursing Education and Adjunct Professor). The article appears in the March 2011 edition of Nursing Clinics of North America and showcases the Bassett-Hartwick Partnership for Nursing Opportunities and Summer Nursing Internship Program.
Associate Professor Penny Boyer, Ph.D., RN, CNE was chosen by Quality and Safety Education in Nursing institute to attend the QSEN Education Consortium Institute scheduled for June 8-10 in Boston, MA at the Sheraton Boston Hotel. American Association of Colleges in Nursing is leading this national initiative generously, funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, to provide full-time faculty in all types of entry-level nursing programs with the skills, knowledge, and resources to educate nursing students to deliver high-quality and safe nursing care.
Professor Peggy Jenkins, M.S., CCRN, CNE and Associate Professor Penny Boyer, Ph.D., RN, CNE both successfully completed requirements for and passed the NLN certification examination for nurse educators, thus earning the title of Certified Nurse Educator.
In addition, Professor Jenkins authored a chapter on drug treatment in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders appearing in Lippincott's Drug Therapy in Nursing,3rd edition. She reviewed a manuscript on respiratory and cardiovascular care for McGraw-Hill's soon to be released text, Critical Care Nursing Demystified; look for her article "I'm NYSNA" in the Spring/Summer 2011 Journal of New York State Nurses Association.
