What I Do Now: Our company is one of the world’s leading providers of visual imagery to content contributors in the media. Within my position, I manage a team that provides technical operations and services to our editorial photographers and editors, which means we provide coverage at events globally. We cover everything from the Olympics, World Cup, Euros, Superbowl, World Series, the Oscars, Grammys and various news events, all to ensure that our photographer’s imagery is captured and sent to our editors and customers as quickly as possible.
How the Hartwick Experience Impacted My Professional Life: My degree and the coursework allowed me to explore a career that combined technology and human interaction. Outside the classroom, I was involved in the Challenge Education program at Pine Lake and the Tech Service Department and worked as a residential advisor. All these roles taught me leadership, time management and how to interact with people from different parts of the community, which has all translated to where I am now in my career dealing with technology and colleagues from around the globe.
What Inspired Me to Follow this Career: I was always interested in technology and how people work with it. The computer programming aspect of technology did not spark my interest in the way human interaction did. I definitely did not expect to travel the world doing technology or be involved in such a fast-paced work environment, but that is how my career fell into place and I very much enjoy it.
My Advice for Current Students: Keep opportunities open and investigate exciting internships! Reach out to people through different networking spaces like LinkedIn; you should have conversations with people about where they are in their professional lives and how they got there. Learn from other people’s advice and insight; they are always willing to share their experiences with others!
Challenges in the Field: Technology is constantly evolving, so it is important to stay up to date on what our competition is doing and how we can make it easier to capture content and transmit it around the world efficiently.
My Favorite Aspect of My Career: Working with people from all around the world. I worked on the Paris 2024 Olympics Games with a team of 115 people and globally, a team of 150; who all came from different backgrounds. Having colleagues from other countries and working as one team allows us to collaborate and create an amazing product!
