Perspectives at Hartwick

Hartwick has partnered with the Constructive Dialogue Institute and launched its blended learning program, Perspectives.

An evidence-based program, Perspectives, equips students and college community members with practical skills to engage in dialogue across lines of difference.

Six Lessons

The full course includes six lessons (approximately 30 minutes each) of Perspectives.

You will:

  • Explore psychological concepts that explain how the brain processes information during challenging situations.
  • Learn practical skills for dialogue through real-life scenarios and interactive activities.
  • Complete three peer-to-peer exercises and two quizzes.

To complete the course, Hartwick community members just need to register to create an account and login to begin.

Over 80% of students report increased confidence navigating difficult conversations and communicating across differences after completing Perspectives. Additionally, 84% say Perspectives helped them gain valuable professional and life skills.

If you do complete all six lessons of the course by April 15, 2026, you will be entered into a raffle to receive the following prizes: access to premier parking on campus for a week, coffee at John Christopher’s Café, gift cards, iPad, and one of a kind Hartwick swag!

Ryan Ceresola

"It's very important that we learn how to talk to each other respectfully, and that we seek to understand where people are coming from, rather than just arguing our own points. I found the Perspectives modules helpful in encouraging that type of thinking."

Ryan Ceresola

Associate Professor of Sociology and Department Chair

"From the Perspectives lessons, I learned how different people view the world differently, and how it is important to listen to others' experiences."

Computer Science Major

"I think with all the advances in our society, including communication via technology, that many people need to be taught open-mindedness and more understanding of different points of view. I also think that this course is beneficial for students going into job fields where differing opinions and ideas may be expressed."

Kite Welch '26

Public Health Major

"By completing the lessons I learned how to look at problems and situations from different viewpoints, not just my own. It helped me by teaching me how to look at situations more fairly."
