Local Foundation Awards Hartwick College Scholarship Gifts Totaling $190,000

Since 1965, the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation has supported Hartwick College. And this year is no exception, thanks to the foundation’s most recent gift of $190,000.

A significant portion of the gift—$150,000—will go to Delaware County HartLand Promise students, with the remaining funds specifically awarded to Delaware County residents enrolled in Hartwick’s School of Nursing.

“A core mission of the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation is to reduce the financial barriers to accessing higher education for students from Delaware County,” said the foundation’s Executive Director Amy Warner. “Hartwick College’s Hartland Promise does just that. By tripling our support of Hartland Promise, the O’Connor Foundation is not only investing in Hartwick College; it is investing in the futures of Delaware County students.”

This latest show of support marks a longstanding and generous partnership between the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation and Hartwick College. Over the years, the foundation’s philanthropy has made an indelible impression on students, primarily through scholarships. The foundation also supports Hartwick’s O’Connor Chair Lecture, which offers nursing students and area healthcare professionals the opportunity to learn about current trends and issues in healthcare. This year’s lecture, held March 6, featured an impressive panel of nurse entrepreneurs who discussed their respective career journeys.

“The O’Connor Foundation has provided key investments and access to higher education for countless residents from Delaware County in New York,” said James Kellerhouse, vice president for institutional advancement & external affairs. “As a native of the county, I find it heartening to see how their scholarship programs have empowered so many rural students and families. Hartwick is fortunate to be the recipient of their support and their legacy is nearly immeasurable.”

The A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation is dedicated to supporting the success of individuals from Delaware County. Its founders, A. Lindsay O’Connor and Olive B. O’Connor, who were residents of Delaware County, achieved notable success in their respective fields. A. Lindsay O’Connor held various elected positions, including State Supreme Court Justice from the Sixth Judicial District, while Olive B. O’Connor was the first female member of the Hobart High School Board of Education and was heavily involved in women’s club activities, eventually becoming president of the New York State Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1942.
