Major: Business Administration
Hometown: Ocala, Florida
Current Job: Retired Vice President of Institutional Advancement and President of the Central Florida Community College Foundation

What I Do Now: I help take care of the household and do the yardwork. I take courses through the Senior Learners Program and I enjoy traveling and visiting friends and family—we have grandchildren in New Orleans. I also spend time walking, exercising, going to church and doing volunteer work.

How the Hartwick Experience Impacted My Professional Life: Hartwick gave me opportunities to learn about people, leadership and organizations, and I’m very grateful for all of those experiences. After graduating, I went to the Virgin Islands for a year and then had the chance to return to Hartwick, where I worked from 1965 to 1969. I was fortunate to work with great people who taught me a lot and it was also where I met my wonderful wife.

Challenges in the Field: The biggest challenge is always finding enough funding to keep things going and to move forward. It takes resources not only to operate but also to develop new programs and that has never been easy.

My Favorite Aspect of My Career: Being president of the Central Florida Community College Foundation. I had the chance to work with endowment and scholarship programs, develop endowed chair programs for the faculty and collaborate with some wonderful people along the way.

My Advice for Current Students: Take advantage of all the opportunities Hartwick offers. Meet as many people as you can. Hartwick is a great place and four years go by very quickly. You don’t want to look back wishing you had done this or that, so make the most of it.
