Two Nursing Alumnae Recognized for Exceptional Contributions to Healthcare

Hartwick College will celebrate two outstanding graduates from its School of Nursing during the "Hartwick College Nursing Distinguished Alumnus Induction Ceremony," set for Friday, Sept. 20, at 3:45 p.m. in Slade Theatre, Yager Hall.

This year, Christine Utegg, ’04 MSN, RN, NPD-BC, and Amanda Clark, ’17 BSN, RN, CWON, will be honored for their exceptional contributions to the nursing profession, embodying the core values of Hartwick College and its School of Nursing.

Utegg, currently an ambulatory nurse educator at Bassett Healthcare Network, has had a distinguished career. Among her many accomplishments is receiving Bassett’s Maureen F. Murray Award for Excellence in Nursing Professional Development in 2020.

"Hartwick’s School of Nursing provided me with a broad perspective on the nursing field, emphasized the importance of nursing research, and thoroughly prepared me for my master’s degree."

Clark, an inpatient wound and ostomy nurse at Bassett Medical Center, serves on the Skin Wound Assessment Team (SWAT). After beginning her career in the inpatient surgical unit, Clark transitioned to her specialized role in wound and ostomy care, where she has thrived since January 2020. Clark has earned four specialty nursing certifications in her field, a testament to her dedication.

“I wouldn’t be the successful nurse I am today without the support of my family and friends. Nursing is a tough but rewarding career, and despite the difficult program at Hartwick, it was worth it,” said Clark.

Chelsea Fassett, clinical assistant professor of nursing and member of the nursing events committee that selected Clark and Utegg, emphasized the deserving nature of both honorees. “Clark brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and charisma to her patient care, ensuring that each individual reaches their optimal health,” said Fassett. “Utegg’s commitment to nursing excellence in education elevates every healthcare professional she works with, sharing invaluable pearls of wisdom that benefit all.”

Hartwick College’s School of Nursing is renowned for developing highly qualified, self-directed professionals who are prepared to adapt and thrive in an ever-evolving healthcare environment. The names of the distinguished nursing alums, including Utegg and Clark, are engraved on a commemorative plaque displayed in the School of Nursing Suite in Smith Hall.

This year’s ceremony marks the first time the induction will take place during “True Blue Weekend,” Hartwick’s annual celebration that brings together students, alumni, family, and friends for various events on campus and at the College’s Pine Lake Environmental campus.
