Generosity Stimulates Growth

It was another transformative summer for the five students chosen for Hartwick’s Baker-Simpson Entrepreneurial Fellowship Program. Baker-Simpson Fellows Ally Quirk, Lydia Marteney, Kate LaPorta, Hannah Warren. Olivia Roth

Thanks to the generosity of Simon Baker ’93 and his associates Sharon Simpson and the late Barclay Simpson, these exceptional students benefitted from extraordinary personal and professional experiences with San Francisco start-ups.

Psychology major Olivia Roth ’21 worked with pioneering fashion retailer Le Tote; English major Hannah Warren ’20 with innovative brand B8ta; economics and business major Kate LaPorta ’20 and Art and business major Ally Quirk ’20 with the “Uber-for-planes,” BlackBird; and anthropology major Lydia Marteney ’21 with workplace data firm Fortress IQ.

“These five amazing women took excellent advantage of their time at their start-up,” observes Baker. “I saw tremendous growth in each of them and witnessed their confidence develop throughout the summer. It was inspiring to watch them navigate their professional challenges and new experiences with stamina and creativity.”
