Nursing Next Steps

NURSING NEXT STEPS DUE: AUGUST 1
Our incoming Hartwick Nurses have several required additional steps in order to be ready to start classes and first-year clinicals.
EARLY ARRIVAL
Incoming nursing students will move onto campus on Thursday, August 27.
This is required by our clinical affiliates. No substitutes are accepted. To fulfill this requirement, please create an account with CastleBranch. Here’s how to set up your account and enable your background check:
Log in to https://portal.castlebranch.com/WV53 to create an account.
Click on “Place Order”.
Click on WV53bg: Background Check.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the box: “I have read order instructions”.
Click on the next two boxes to continue; select “Continue”.
Create your account with your personal information. The cost is $136.
Click “Next”.
Continue as directed through the rest of the process.
The Nursing Department will automatically receive a copy of your report. You will not need to do anything additional.
International students who have questions about their particular requirements can email at [email protected]. Other questions should be directed to CastleBranch by clicking “student or candidate support” on their website.
When contacting us, please note that not all offices are fully staffed over the summer, and responses may be delayed.
Students must hold a current CPR certification. Please remember that the only acceptable certification is the Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers offered through the American Heart Association.
Keep the certification card for your records in order to have a copy on you when you come to campus. A photocopy or scan must be submitted to Stephanie Havens at [email protected] by August 15.
A physical examination must be completed within 12 months of starting the program, and must be updated annually. Our health forms include a specific section for nursing majors–you can find these under the “Your Health and Wellness” next steps in your applicant portal. All questions regarding this should be directed to [email protected]. Do not send your physical or any other health-related information to any other campus office.
Please send in final, official college transcripts to Hartwick College for all college-level courses taken. Transcripts should be sent to:
Hartwick College
Admissions Office
PO Box 4022
Oneonta, NY 13820
OR have them sent electronically to: [email protected]
Please note that transcripts must be sent directly from college to college to be considered official. AP courses and college literature courses do not excuse students from taking ENGL 110: College Composition.
For the fall semester, you will need the following items (and you will use them throughout your years in the nursing department):
A clinical bag and kit will be available through the College Bookstore. The bookstore will order skills kits and they will be available for pickup when students arrive for Wick Weekend on 8/27. Charges will appear for the kit on students’ fall semester bills.
Scrubs (white top and navy pants) ordered through the College Bookstore or elsewhere
A Hartwick College uniform patch ordered through the College Bookstore (worn on the left sleeve of the scrub top)
White, non-porous closed-toe shoes (e.g.leather sneakers)
