Family News Hartwick Nursing Lecture Looks at Resilience And Well-Being

On Friday, November 4, Teresa “Tese” M. Stephens, PH.D., M.S.N., R.N., C.N.E., will present “Life on Purpose: The Gift of a Resilient Mindset” for Hartwick College’s semi-annual O’Connor Chair Lecture. Stephens will provide insights into research and her work in the area of resilience as a means to professional well-being. The Lecture will be presented on Zoom and run from 7 – 8:30 p.m.; the event is open to the public.

Stephens is a nurse educator, researcher, and consultant with more than 35 years of experience in both practice and academic settings, holding positions from adjunct faculty to dean. She is the author of Stephens’ Model of Resilience, and is the founder and “Chief Boat Rocker” of RN P.R.E.P. (Personal Resilience Enhancement Plan). She is also the host of the “RN P.R.E.P.” Podcast. Her research is focused on Resilience, specifically as a tool to promote well-being and professional fulfillment in nurses, nursing students, and other clinicians. Much of this work is built upon the narratives of Holocaust survivors. She is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and serves as a consultant, advisor, and member of several professional organizations, task forces, and work groups.

Stephens received her B.S. in nursing from East Tennessee State University, her master’s degree in nursing from King College, a post-graduate certificate in nursing education from the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. She is the author of multiple publications and book chapters, and a frequent presenter at regional, national, and international conferences and workshops. Stephens serves as a consultant to multiple organizations and is an associate professor for Galen College of Nursing.

Hartwick’s O’Connor Chair Lecture Series is endowed by the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation of Delhi, NY. It is designed to provide nursing students and guests an opportunity to learn about the issues facing experienced professionals from all aspects of nursing and related fields.

Hartwick College Nursing Department Chair and Clinical Associate Professor Patricia Grust, PhD, will serve as the evening’s host, President Darren Reisberg will also offer remarks, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing Kathleen Ash will moderate the discussion. The Zoom link for the Lecture will be made public the day of the event at the O’Connor Chair Lecture webpage.
